Develop Accident Prevention and Management Skills
The Rescue Diver Course is awesome and is a crucial step in expanding your knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level. The Rescue Diver rating is a prerequisite for all leadership training (Dive master, Assistance Instructor, Open Water Instructor).
The Rescue Diver Program is divided into two easy steps:
KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT: This portion develops the principals and information you need for preventing and handling dive emergencies. The knowledge development portion is completed through independent study using the Rescue Diver Manual, Rescue Diver Video, and review session with your instructor.
OPEN WATER TRAINING: During the open water training, you'll apply the knowledge you've learned as you develop rescue skills. You'll spend a morning at the beach where you'll practice skills in an actual diving environment (without the waves and surge of other beach dive sites). You'll also spend the day on one of the local dive charter boats applying your skills and practicing rescue scenarios. Upon completion of the rescue scenarios, you'll be returninghome with your Rescue Diver Certification!.
The following topics will be discussed and practiced:
- Self rescue
- Diver stress
- Recognizing stress
- Management
- First aid implementation
- First aid procedures
- Rescuer function
- Managing an emergency
- Common equipment problems
- Missing diver procedures
- Rescuing the responsive and unresponsive diver at the surface and under water
- Rescue exits with the responsive diver
- Equipment removal and exits with the unresponsive diver
Rescue Diver Certification Prerequisites:
To enroll, you must be certified as a Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent (or Jr. Advanced). To complete the requirements for the Rescue Diver certification, you must also have completed a sanctioned course in CPR within the previous three years. You may complete the CPR training before, during or after the rescue training.
